Ghostbusters – Original Soundtrack

It’s not extremely rare, but the first US pressing is becoming increasingly sought after by Ghostbusters completionists.

Description

Label: Arista Records
Catalog number: ARCD-8246
Format: Compact Disc (first US CD edition, released circa 1985)
The original soundtrack of the cult film Ghostbusters (1984) in one of its first CD pressings.
Contains the iconic “Ghostbusters” theme by Ray Parker Jr. (#1 hit), plus the era’s big hits: “Cleanin’ Up The Town” (The Bus Boys), “Savin’ The Day” (Alessi), “In The Name Of Love” (Thompson Twins), “I Can Wait Forever” (Air Supply), and other pop/rock tracks featured in the film.
A historical piece for franchise fans: the first US CD edition of the album that helped make “Who you gonna call?” a global phenomenon.

Value for Ghostbusters fans

For a collector or hardcore Ghostbusters fan, this CD has medium-high value, especially if it’s the 1985 first US pressing ARCD-8246 (often with a Japanese matrix, like many early Arista CD editions):

  • ’80s Nostalgia: This is the version closest to the film’s release. Many fans prefer this “vintage” edition over later reissues.
  • Display Piece: The booklet and simple graphics typical of early CD editions make it look great displayed next to the LEGO Ecto-1, posters, or other film memorabilia.
  • It’s not extremely rare, but the first US pressing is becoming increasingly sought after by Ghostbusters completionists.
