Value for Ghostbusters fans
For a true Ghostbusters fan, this item holds enormous value, especially for emotion and collecting:
- Direct link to the film: It is the real-world basis for the design of the belt gizmo used by Egon and Ray in the original 1984 movie. The rectangular body, button layout, and overall shape inspired the famous “gizmo” that the Ghostbusters wear on their belts.
- Prop builder authenticity: Many screen-accurate replica builders use the ICC-82D (or very similar variants) as the starting point to create versions as faithful as possible to the movie prop. Owning an original provides a unique satisfaction that no modern replica can match.
- Nostalgia and history: It represents a piece of 1970s electronics history that became iconic through cinema. It is the “real” object behind one of the franchise’s most beloved gadgets.
The original from the 1984 film is the Sanyo ICC-808D (or ICC-808D). The Sanyo ICC-82D (from 1970-1971) is a very similar model (same era, similar gas-discharge displays, close dimensions), and its internal board is often used as an alternative by fans to build the Gizmo.
