Sanyo ICC-82D (1970) – Vintage portable calculator with original box and instructions

If you’re an old-school Ghostbusters fan and love props, this calculator is practically a grail. It’s not just a vintage piece: it’s the actual starting point of the P.K.E. Meter. Perfect to display alongside replicas or as a centerpiece of your Ghostbusters collection, with a charm and significance that few other things can match.

Description

One of the very first battery-powered portable calculators produced by Sanyo in 1970 (model ICC-82D).
A historic piece of electronics: 8-digit display with gas-discharge tubes in a characteristic amber color (Nixie-like), 4 basic functions, powered by rechargeable battery or adapter.
Compact rectangular design, with buttons and a general shape that make it instantly recognizable.
Complete with original box and instructions.

Value for Ghostbusters fans

For a true Ghostbusters fan, this item holds enormous value, especially for emotion and collecting:

  • Direct link to the film: It is the real-world basis for the design of the belt gizmo used by Egon and Ray in the original 1984 movie. The rectangular body, button layout, and overall shape inspired the famous “gizmo” that the Ghostbusters wear on their belts.
  • Prop builder authenticity: Many screen-accurate replica builders use the ICC-82D (or very similar variants) as the starting point to create versions as faithful as possible to the movie prop. Owning an original provides a unique satisfaction that no modern replica can match.
  • Nostalgia and history: It represents a piece of 1970s electronics history that became iconic through cinema. It is the “real” object behind one of the franchise’s most beloved gadgets.

The original from the 1984 film is the Sanyo ICC-808D (or ICC-808D). The Sanyo ICC-82D (from 1970-1971) is a very similar model (same era, similar gas-discharge displays, close dimensions), and its internal board is often used as an alternative by fans to build the Gizmo.
